What is Stress? (Parts 1 & 2)

What you’ll learn

This session explains what stress really is and how it affects people in different ways. Stress is not just one problem — it is often a mix of anxiety, depression, panic, poor sleep, low self-esteem, and poor wellbeing.
You’ll learn how to recognise common signs of stress, understand why it develops, and see what keeps stress going once it starts.

You’ll be introduced to Stress Control in nine words: face your fears, be more active, boost your wellbeing, and take the first steps towards becoming your own therapist, building practical skills to manage stress in everyday life.

Why this session is important

‘Knowing your enemy’ is the first step to fighting back. When you understand stress, it becomes easier to make sense of what is happening, and it feels less overwhelming and less frightening.
This session gives you a clear way of understanding your own experience and provides a strong foundation for the rest of the course.
