What you’ll learn
This session focuses on what happens in your body when you feel stressed. Common physical symptoms include muscle tension, a fast heartbeat (palpitations), breathlessness, dizziness or light-headedness, nausea or stomach discomfort, and a tight chest.
You’ll learn about the body’s natural alarm system and why it can stay switched on even when there is no real danger.
In Part 2, you’ll learn practical ways to calm the body. This includes exercise, reducing caffeine, belly breathing, and progressive muscle relaxation.
Why this session is important
We start with the body because many people first notice stress through physical symptoms. When these symptoms are not understood, they can feel frightening and make stress worse.
This session helps you understand what is happening physically and teaches simple techniques to calm the body. As physical symptoms ease, it often becomes easier to feel more in control and manage stress.
